    Terrific!

That is amazing ! It reminds me of some of the old toys i had when i was little.

Since you already have the Ugokins as the antagonists, why not have a neutral species that the Space Marines offer humanitarian aid to?

  6. HJ Media Studios says:

I’ll probably have some "civilian" minifigs in some of the sets, and those will definitely include some aliens. Besides, this alien design will probably replace the old Ugokin design. This one looks a little more professional and "weird."

One common convention for protagonists and antagonists are the way faces / helmets are depicted. Using the Rogue Trooper comic for example, the good-guy Southers wear environmental suits that show their whole face (so that readers would empathize with them) whilst the bad-guy Norts have suits that only reveal their eyes (to dehumanize them).

Applying this concept to your Space Marines, your Marines obviously fit the good-guy genre with the visible face visor, whilst the Ugokins could be left without faces to add to the fear and uncertainty. Amicable aliens would also have faces.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Whilst doing some research for the dropship we discussed, it dawned on me that the Ugokins could have biology-based tech (as opposed to the electro-mechanical nature of the Space Marines).

This could be reflected in the design of alien craft, as well as gameplay styles in the Space Marines RTS project e.g. All Ugokin units can gradually regenerate from damage, whilst Space Marines require a medic / engineering units to heal infantry / vehicles.

  11. HJ Media Studios says:

Great minds think alike. I was thinking along the same lines; Ugokin vehicles are basically huge genetically-engineered creatures instead of vehicles as we know them.

This is pretty awesome! I made an alien too if you guys want to check it out.

  13. JimmytheJ says:

Very cool! Reminds me of something I once saw by android arts, and wished was physical… But unless those tentacles are sticky, it’s gonna suck making these guys hold stuff. Have you considered suckers? They could hold onto the top of studs, that way. Much more revolutionary, much nicer than robo-claws.

The legs are lovely. Make sure the feet look just as good with the legs on the other way around, don’t overhang the 1×1 area (so they can stand right up close to things, or in a recessed area) and don’t go flat at the back, so aliens can have their knees on either side and be used for multiple alien types (I’m thinking a blue friendly alien race, with the same legs on backwards)

  14. HJ Media Studios says:

The Ugokins (that’s what this species is) utilize biomechanical technology. Weapons and tools plug directly into a Ugokin’s arm. Most of the friendly alien races use either the Alien Conquest/Atlantis "tentacle feet" piece, the old Life on Mars alien leg piece, or normal minifig legs.

  15. Orcaman4 says:

The color is somewhat off for a evil alien. Why not printed armor and dark green skin?
